Surge & Hi-Pot Test Service

Motor Surge & Hi-Pot Testing in Singapore

Standard insulation resistance (megger) testing only checks winding-to-earth insulation. It will not find a turn-to-turn or coil-to-coil weakness, which is how most winding failures actually start. Surge comparison testing will.

Tests We Perform

Surge comparison test — Applies a fast-rising voltage pulse to each phase and compares the response waveforms. Detects turn-to-turn shorts, coil-to-coil faults, phase-to-phase weakness and incorrect connections that no other test will find.

Hi-pot (high potential) test — Applies elevated DC or AC voltage between windings and earth to prove ground-wall insulation strength.

Insulation resistance and polarisation index — Measures insulation condition and moisture contamination over a timed test.

Winding resistance balance — Confirms phase resistance is balanced within tolerance, revealing bad joints and connection faults.

Why It Matters

A turn-to-turn fault typically develops months before the motor fails. Once it does fail, you are looking at unplanned downtime plus a full rewind. Surge testing finds the weakness while the motor is still running, so the repair can be scheduled into a planned shutdown instead of happening at 3am.
